WORK EXPERIENCE

January 2020 to August 2021

  • Head of the department of Anaesthesia at Baba Sahab Ambedkar Medical College and Hospital, New Delhi, till June 2020. During this period I was actively involved with the planning of logistics and arrangements for the COVID pandemic that affected the globe.
  • Established a new COVID ICU with establishment of fresh Medical Gas Pipeline System (MGPS) in the said ICU and 150+ other beds in the hospital.
  • Executed establishment of a Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) tank with 12K litre capacity within the hospital premises to deal with the exponential rise in oxygen consumption in the hospital during the COVID pandemic, along with clinical work.
  • Chairperson of the Hospital Equipment Need Assessment (HENA) committee
  • Member of the committee for review of COVID mortalities of two government hospitals
  • Member of various hospital committees from time to time, relating to hospital functioning and improvement
  • Superannuated from the official post on the 31st of August 2021 after 31 years in service of the nation and its people.

Additional MS (Medical Superintendent) Vigilance & Medical Board

Responsibilities:

  • Medical officer in-charge for all vigilance related matters pertaining to the hospital
  • Medical officer in-charge of medical board for all appointments to non-gazetted posts of central government, state government and public sector units
  • Medical officer in-charge of Delhi Arogya Kosh which provides financial assistance to eligible resident patients of Delhi for investigative and other therapeutic purposes
Chief Medical Officer (NFSG) – department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at Lok Nayak Hospital in New Delhi, India and associated Guru Nanak Eye Centre.

Lok Nayak Hospital is a 2000 bed teaching hospital associated with Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi under the University of Delhi. The Department of Anaesthesiology manages 22 ORs, a 15-bedded ICU, Anaesthesia for Radio-diagnosis/therapy and a Pre Anaesthesia Check-up clinic. The hospital runs a residency programme for Post Graduate Diploma and Post Graduate MD, MS, M.Ch (Paediatric Surgery) and DNB courses in various specialities & super-specialities including Anaesthesiology. 

Responsibilities:

  • Managing the day-to-day working of the Department along with clinical teaching and training of the postgraduate anaesthesia trainees. 

  • Key member of the organizing team in enabling Maulana Azad Medical College & Associated LokNayak Hospital (MAMC & LNH) obtain certification as a Center Of Airway Excellence from the LMA company as well as Carl Storz on Airway Management techniques

  • Certified ACLS instructor and faculty member of MAMC which is the designated International Training Center (ITC) of the American Heart Association (AHA). More than 250 workshops conducted covering all under grad, post grad medical students, medics, paramedics and non-healthcare personnel. 

  • Designated Coordinator by the government for 38 Medical facilities provided for sportspersons & officials of 71 participating countries during the IXX Common Wealth Games (CWG) held in the year 2010 in New Delhi, India. Also trained nearly 2000 healthcare personnel in the skills of BLS & ACLS as part of preparation of the support staff for the healthcare sites for CWG 2010

April 1997 to January 2003

Deputation to the Sultanate of Oman to work for the Ministry of Health as a Specialist in Anaesthesiology in Sohar Hospital.
Sohar Hospitalis a 400-bedded regional, referral hospital. The hospital has a 6-bedded adult ICU and runs 7ORs on a regular basis, including a day care unit. The hospital provides surgical facilities in the specialities of General surgery, Urology, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, ENT and Ophthalmology. The ICU caters to all acutely ill Medical andSurgical patients. The largest numbers of cases dealt with in the ICU and after hours in the hospital are high-speed RTA victims. All head injury cases were evacuated by road or by helicopters by the anaesthesiologists to the neurosurgical centre located 225 kms away.

Responsibilities:

  • Managed the ORs , ICU and the PAC clinic of the hospital in addition to providing cover for medical officers and Jr. Specialists

February, 1993 to April, 1997

Senior Medical Officer in the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive care at MAMC & LNH.

Responsibilities:

  • In addition to clinical work planned, coordinated and executed the Pulse Polio Immunization Programme started by the Govt. of Delhi in the year 1994 as part of the team. This is now a National Programme implemented by the Govt. of India and has further expanded to several other SAARC Nations.

July, 1991 to February, 1993

Medical Officer in the Dept. of Anesthesia at the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, New Delhi, India.

Responsibilities:

  • In addition to conducting anesthesia in the ORs I was working in the Pain Clinic of the hospital where we were primarily using Acupuncture with traditional needle method as well as Laser. We also ran a PAC clinic bi-weekly.

December, 1990 to July, 1991

General Duty Medical Officer, Govt. of Delhi, posted at a Government dispensary 

Responsibilities:

  • First Contact for patients for attending to day-to-day medical / surgical problems. The patients requiring specialist advice and intervention were referred to the referral hospital catering to the area.

August, 1990 to December, 1990

Senior Resident, Dept. of Anesthesia and Intensive Care at LNH and associated Guru Nanak Eye Centre. 

Responsibilities:

  • Working in the ORs for elective cases, providing 24-hour care for emergency ORs and the ICU, teaching, training and supervision of the on-duty Junior Resident doctors 

July 1987 to July 1990​

Diploma and M.D. trainee in the Dept. of Anesthesia and Intensive Care at MAMC and LNH, New Delhi. 

  • Thesis accepted in 1989 – “ INTUBATING CONDITIONS AND CARDIOVASCULAR CHANGES FOLLOWING INTUBATION: A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF PANCURONIUM BROMIDE AND VECURONIUM BROMIDE.’’

May, 1985 to June, 1987

Resident Medical Officer at Mohinder Hospital and Medical Research Centre at New Delhi, India.

  • Duties included assisting the consultants in various specialties on their ward rounds, assisting the surgeons in the ORs and dealing with all the emergency arrivals at the center as the first contact.

July, 1982 to December 1984

Compulsory Rotating Internship and Houseman in St. Stephens Hospital, New Delhi, India.

  • In addition to routine work assisted in a Plastic Surgery Charitable Camp organized by a visiting German team of doctors at the hospital
